People FROM the desert are so sheltered its pathetic.  All they know is what is in the desert.  Let me tell you the experiences I have had in life living down the hill up the hill down the hill and back up the hill again.  We are talking a 37 yr span...yes 37 years!  I am NOT originally from the desert.  I was born in Fontana at Kaiser Hospital.  Lived in Upland, Alta Loma, Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, San Bernardino all before I moved to the desert in 1984.  I went to Jr high and High school up here and the day after I graduated...I MOVED OUT OF THE DESERT! I moved to Rancho Cucamonga.  I lived there for two years before I moved back up to the desert for 10 months only to move back down the hill to San Dimas. Living in Rancho Cucamonga Ive been dancing in Tijuana several times, even got in a fight at Tequila Sunrise..hahaha....but nothing happened I was safe.  During this time frame I worked for Builders Emporium, and the Ymca.  When I moved to San Dimas, I lived there for 10 months before I moved to my childhood home town of Upland.  I lived there for 8 years.  I worked for the Ymca, I was a preschool teacher for a preschool and after school day care business, I was a transcriber, secretary, for a publications company in Walnut and I also attended MT. SAC.  Some things that I experienced in life during THAT time frame of 8 years was, Miami Fl...deep sea fishing, Cuban food, Maui, Deep Sea Fishing, Snorkeling, Blue Water Rafting in the ocean of Maui, Fresh water fishing, Teppan food, Parasailing at the river, Dinners that cost over $300 in a seating for just two people at Mamas restaurant in Maui, Lebanese food including the wonderful dessert BAKLAVA, The Good Guys car club runs, Camping at Gaviota Beach and Lake Cachuma, Solvang, Fishing out of the Newport harbor in a little tin boat scared shitless cause the waves were so big...thats all just to name a few of the 8 yrs of me living in Upland.  Then where do I go after that?  BACK UP TO THE DESERT!  I havent left...well I almost did two years ago.  But let me tell you my experiences back up here in the desert which also involve experiences from down the hill visiting.  Up in the desert in the last 7 years that I have been up here I have experienced, ALOT OF TRIPS to the river, to the dunes, camping, riding, sandrails, TURBO MAZDA MINEOLA Wheelies up Comp Hill and Oldsmobile hill, Jeeping all through out Lucerne Valley, Johnson Valley, Big Bear, 4xing out through Rattle Snake Canyon out to Pioneer town and back, "The big Rock" out in Landers, Calico jeeping and camping, The barstow drive in theather, petrogliphs out in Lucerne Valley, camping in Mexico ON the beach at El Faro Beach, Pismo BEACH, hiking in Rainbow canyon and rock collecting, Mines that go for miles in Lake Mead, man many bon fires with my kids at Bolsa Chica right before the sunsets to get beatiful pics of the sunsets and my kids, Cross country driving in a motorhome to Alabama, crossing through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississipi, HURRICANE KATRINA WHILE IN ALABAMA!  Duning in Idaho, yes where Napoleon Dynamites grandma crashed, crossing through Utah, Nevada and back to Cali, many many trips to VEGAS, been on a date in Newport Beach and was picked up in a Bentley which had MINK carpeting inside, Saved a girls life who was in a car accident that had rolled three times I was first on scene, and if I wasnt there she would have died, took care of my best friend from hs grandparents as they were dieing from cancer, then in turn took care of my mother who died from cancer, worked at Lucerne Valley High School as an instructional aide for special ed and RSP, attended Barstow College, have two years of college credits, when my grandpa disappeared for 39 hrs we finally found him and found out he had alzheimers so I gave up my house and moved into his house and took care of him for 3 and a half years, met the most impressional person in my life...my best friend...    Colorado...Colorado Springs went to Garden of the Gods... Got a school bus driving job at Huntington Beach Unified School District, got an apartment in Newport Beach only to be halfway moved in and then backed out because....I met and married the devil....Sushi, a cruise to Mexico, Encinitas...the Meditation Garden....Carmel....Dane Cook Concert...many Sick Puppy Concerts...San Diego Beach...School Bus driver... Karaoke,  Promoting Bands and In the Band scene, throwing benefits, shows, etc.... Thai Food....  Got asked to become WFD Street team,   Im sure I have left alot out and cant type fast enough for my thinking right now but in short.... I look back on my life and all the things that I have experienced and I just have to say...theres more to life than just the desert kids.  GO EXPERIENCE IT!!!!!
